Senior Manager of Finance

Finance - Toronto

We are looking for our first dedicated Finance hire to establish and then grow our finance function. In this role, you will be a vital part of the business by advising the executive team as well as building our systems and processes related to FP&A, accounting, investment, budgeting, unit economics and financial policy. You will report directly to the CEO.

What you will do:

  • Start and scale the Finance function by implementing effective financial systems and process to manage the rapid growth of Properly
  • Manage hiring, training and development for future Finance team members
  • Conduct and manage financial reporting at Properly, including investor, regulatory and operational reporting
  • Develop, implement, enforce and manage accounting processes, policies and principles to ensure complete and accurate financial and accounting information
  • Establish and maintain corporate tax structures and reporting processes, including working with external advisors on the preparation of annual income tax returns and SR&ED claims
  • Understand, manage and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and regulatory bodies 
  • Oversee relationships with 3rd party advisors for tax, audit and bookkeeping services 
  • Design, implement and enforce internal controls
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of annual budgets and forecasts
  • Coordination with external auditors for interim and year-end financial statement audits 
  • Work with outsourced bookkeeping services to post transactions and prepare month-end reconciliations
  • Support fundraising initiatives

What you bring to the table:

  • CA, CPA designations
  • Experience as an early member of a Finance team at a scaling company
  • Audit or tax experience from a tier 1 accounting firm
  • Technical expertise in Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
  • Tech-savvy mindset and the desire to adopt new technologies and concepts
  • Financial modelling expertise and the ability to prepare a comprehensive three statement model
  • Comfort juggling multiple files and deadlines
