Director of Brand

Marketing and Growth - Toronto

We are looking for a Director of Brand to join our growing team! In this role, you will be responsible for leading world-class brand communications that demonstrate to Canadians how Properly can help them to seamlessly achieve their real estate goals without the usual stress or fear. They would champion extensive consumer research to thoroughly understand the customer pain points, in order to refine  our proposition and establish Properly as the leader and top-of-mind brand in the category 

In tandem with leading strategy, this person is responsible for the efforts that grow brand awareness and brand preference by building an emotive connection with Properly. They will lead a team of experts in creative, design, content marketing and PR communications to execute integrated marketing campaigns that build to the Properly vision. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, this individual will be the steward of the Properly brand in Canada, as it seeks to rapidly grow in helping more people transact in real estate stress-free.

What you will do:

  • Lead the brand marketing team including subject matter experts across brand strategy, creative and graphic design, content, and PR/communications
  • Refine Properly’s brand positioning and brand blueprint, leveraging research, internal insights and instincts to determine how Properly should present itself to the world across all marketing messages, and guide business decisions like market selection and customer persona prioritization
  • Create a vision and clear distinction for how the brand should come to life in content across paid, organic and owned channels
  • Identify opportunities across partnerships, influencers, endorsements and CSR to elevate Properly’s brand credibility in the real estate vertical and incrementally reach potential customers who otherwise wouldn’t have heard of the Properly brand
  • Work closely with the growth marketing team to ensure that the brand is portrayed in a way that also considers best practices and learnings across each of the marketing channels to best produce a direct response
  • Manage several external agencies across creative, media, PR and research to support all brand-building activities
  • Position Properly as a trusted real estate data leader by virtue of the unique insights it can provide to media publishers and incorporated in TV segments and news articles
  • Deploy brand tracking across various metrics including but not limited to brand awareness, sentiment and intent. As well as setting targets across these key performance metrics and implementing activities to optimize

What we are looking for:

  • 8+ years of experience in a marketing role with a focus on product marketing, brand building, and/or partnerships, including experience in building and managing a high-performance team in an organization that is in the process of scaling
  • Experience in early-stage brand building: having knowledge of the right strategic frameworks, tools and partners required to successfully build a brand from the ground up
  • A strategic visionary: as the steward of the Properly brand, this person must know what the company needs to do in order to be the #1 real estate brand in Canada, as well as see what opportunities lie ahead over the next several years and put plans in place to exploit them
  • Results-driven: ability to keep a team’s focus on the most critical company objectives and lead activities required to achieve them, with executional excellence. Constantly leveraging insights from previous efforts to improve future performance
  • Strong communicator: ability to clearly articulate the brand vision and gain alignment across key stakeholders
  • Creative problem solving: having an ability to address complex problems, with limited information
  • Customer-centric thinking: ensuring that all brand communications are rooted in solving customer challenges, as well as accurately reflect and relate to Canadian homeowners
  • Inspiration seeker: passion for exceptional marketing, as well as initiative for finding what competitors are doing to inspire great ideas and competitive drive within the company
  • Process oriented: Comfortable stepping into an ambiguous environment and building teams and processes from scratch that help to improve ways of working and drive greater impact
