Finance - Toronto

We are looking for a Financial Controller with an interest in Real Estate to join our finance team at Properly. In this role, you will be an integral part of the finance team, taking ownership of all operational and compliance aspects of finance at Properly. As the Financial Controller you will help build the department and create the systems and processes the company needs to succeed.

What you will do:

  • Develop and implement internal controls and processes that can scale with a growing business
  • Assess current internal software and programs and evaluate when changes are needed
  • Oversee all day-to-day operations of the accounting function including bookkeeping and payroll activities 
  • Manage the month end close process and external financial reporting requirements
  • Provide management with accurate and timely financial information and analysis to support in decision making
  • Own audit process and evaluate complex transactions in preparation for audit
  • Assist with tax compliance management
  • Own cap table management
  • Support financial analyst with budgeting process and annual forecasting

What we are looking for:

  • CPA designation
  • 5+ years of finance and accounting experience with at least one of which outside a professional services firm
  • Experience leading an audit and overseeing compliance reporting (tax, payroll)
  • Ability to manage financial reporting including preparation of internal and external financial reports
  • Knowledge of ASPE and IFRS and ability to analyze transactions under both standards
  • Intrinsically motivated, able to work autonomously and take ownership of tasks
  • Able to design and implement key controls while maintaining the balance between controls and efficiency 
  • Payroll experience and ability to manage year end payroll processes 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets
  • Thrives in a fast pace environment with a focus on deadlines 
  • Start-up and real estate industry experience an asset
